Dumke, John

John Dumke lost his courageous battle with Leukemia on Saturday, March 30, at home with his loving wife Sue and sister-in-law, Janey by his side. John was born Aug. 21, 1951, to Leo and Carroll (Ihde) Dumke of County Line. John was married to his sweetheart Susan Wasurick on June 5, 1976 and also resided in County Line until the time of his death.

Aside from spending time with family and friends, John loved working on tractors and farm equipment. John began working for his father right out of high school at Dumke Farm Supply. In 1981, John and his brother, Richard went into partnership and purchased the business from their parents and renamed it Dumke Brothers Farm Equipment Sales & Service, where he worked with Richard and his wife, Sue until the time of his illness. John always said that he never considered their customers as customers, rather they were all friends.

John was a proud member of the Oconto Elks Lodge #887. This organization was very dear to his heart and John was Elk of the Year for his Lodge in 2011 and shared that honor with his brother, Rich in 2007. He always enjoyed grilling steaks for their golf outings, flipping pancakes for their pancake breakfasts and working the Elks tents during Copperfest & the fishing derbies. The one event he most enjoyed helping out at was the yearly Venison Stew Dinner.

John had many interests and loved the outdoors. In the summertime he loved golfing with his golf buddies and his friend, Dennis Shufelt and his nephew, Ryan Earley. He also loved fishing and especially looked forward to their yearly family and friends camping trip at Shakey Lakes in Michigan, where he could fish with his nephew, Dan Mills from Indianapolis. John also enjoyed deer hunting on his friend Kent's property. John often served as the grill master at family gatherings and he loved gardening and mowing the lawn. John was a life long bowler and enjoyed playing cards with the guys after league each week. He was an avid Packer fan and they enjoyed getting together at Janey's to cheer on their team. John also enjoyed watching shows about Alaska and dreamed to go there one day. One of John's most favorite hobbies was making maple syrup each spring with his brother, Rich and other family members. Mrs. Butterworth couldn't compete with the Dumke's maple syrup.

Survivors include John's wife, Sue; his parents, Leo and Carroll Dumke; a brother, Richard (Wendy) Dumke, Oconto; a sister,Sandy (Vic) Heitzkey, Green Bay; a sister, Barb (Jim) Shufelt, Oconto; and a sister, Darlene (Paul) Meagher, Fremont; a sister-in-law, Mary Mills, Indianapolis; a sister-in-law, Judy (Ken) LaFortune, Oconto; brother-in-law, Jim (Dede) Wasurick, Green Bay; Donna Bushmaker, Oconto; special sister-in-law, Janey Belongia, Oconto.
