Verhagen, LaVerne

LaVerne Verhagen, 90, Green Bay, died Thursday, March 27, 2014. She was born February 13, 1924, in Green Bay to Chester and Gertrude (Burdick) Johnston.

LaVerne married George "Melvin" Verhagen on May 3, 1947, at West Side Moravian Church. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was a lifelong member of the Moravian Church and also was a member of the Elks Club. LaVerne loved traveling with George, playing cards with Gert and John Ryba, and going out to eat with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

LaVerne is survived by her daughters, Linda Loch, Sharon (Bill) Sadler, Dianne (Tom) Paplham; grandchildren, Chad Loch, Andy (Irene) Loch, Matthew Sadler, Tarra (Mike) Bruckner, Jacob (Anna) Paplham, Tiffany (Willie) Sadler-Kamps; great-grandchildren, Michaela, Ashley, Jessica Maxwell, Lucy, Ayden, Josie, Drew, and Lydia; many devoted nieces and nephews, including 2 goddaughters, Jill Lambert and Suzie Lange.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George "Melvin"; her parents; siblings, Floyd (Gert) Johnston, Jeanette (Edward) Samp; son-in-law, Eric Loch; and nephews, Floyd Samp, Wayne Samp, and John Johnston.

Friends may call at West Side Moravian Church, 1707 S. Oneida St., from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5th. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in LaVerne's name.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Unity Hospice, especially Cathy and Sara for their care and compassion, and to her nieces and nephews for their years of time spent with her.
