Leonard William Roznowski, 91, Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Angel's Touch Assisted Living. He was born on April 5, 1922, in the Town of Eaton to William and Elizabeth (Pivonka) Roznowski, the tenth of their twelve children.
Leonard grew up in the Great Depression and went on to a stellar athletic career at Green Bay East High School, from which he graduated in 1940. He was a member of the Greatest Generation, proudly serving in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USS Davenport in World War II. Leonard married Elaine Barras on March 31, 1951, enjoying 52 years with her until her passing in 2003. With Elaine, he raised four children on Marquette Avenue in Green Bay and took enormous pride in his eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
"Rozzy" was a telephone man, serving customers and fixing troubles as an employee of Wisconsin Bell and AT&T for 37 years, until his retirement in 1984. He was an avid and accomplished golfer, twice winning the Brown County Tournament and scoring a hole-in-one. His many talents included the craftsmanship of a carpenter, plumber, and electrician. Leonard will be remembered as an outgoing friend and a loving provider to his family.
He is survived by his four children, Nancy (Gene) Nader, Thomas (Michelle) Roznowski, Jeffrey (Diane) Roznowski and Donald (Colleen) Roznowski; 11 grandchildren: Jessica (Jon) Kubiak-Haag and Christopher (Jill) Kubiak; Alexandra, Abigayle, Andrew and Adam Roznowski; Lauren (Mike) Roznowski Hayden, Matthew and Emily Roznowski; Morgan and Frankie Roznowski; a great-granddaughter, Julia Kubiak-Haag; a sister, Adeline Simcik; four sisters-in-law, Molly Roznowski, Joanne Roznowski, Marilyn Roznowski and Jeannine Barras; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; his parents; five brothers, Harry, John, Michael, Raymond, and Andrew; and five sisters, Angeline, Anna, Mary, Clara, and Helen.
Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church, corner of Ninth St. and 12th Ave., from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Entombment will in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. A memorial fund has been established in his memory, which will be donated to the Green Bay East High School Athletic Department.
