Sticka, Verna M.
Verna Sticka. had a full life, marriage to Edward Sticka and a daughter Jennifer Alexander. Verna Sticka passed away on August 22, 2013. She was 88 years old. Verna was born in the Town of Nasawaupee, Door County on January 9, 1925 to Alex and Ann (Laurent) Mura. She was united in marriage to Ed Sticka on May 13, 1944 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Algoma. Together they ran Sticka's Landscaping Nursery until they retired in 2000. She was a member of St. Mary Church and Rosary Society. Verna loved her family and enjoyed her friends. She liked being a homemaker, reading, writing letters and playing cards. Verna kept a daily journal for many years. An excerpt from the journal "I dreamed of being happily married to a loving, caring man, to be blessed with happy children, to be a good wife and mother, and live a long good life. Mission accomplished. Thank you God."
Verna is survived by her husband Ed, daughter Jennifer and her husband Jim Alexander; two sisters Dorothy Halada and Joan Mauer; brothers-in-law Earl Sticka and Herb Zimmerman; sister-in-law Pat Sticka and many nieces and nephews.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents Alex and Ann Mura, mother-in-law Antonia Sticka, son-in-law Jim Reinert, sister Donna Zimmerman, brothers-in-law Joe Halada, Tom Mauer, Marvin Sticka, Milton Sticka and Marvin Van Lanen, sisters-in-laws Margie Van Lanen, Margaret Sticka and Rita Andrews.
Friends may call at St. Mary Catholic Church, Algoma from 8:30 am Monday August 26, 2013 until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with Rev. William Swichtenberg officiating.
The SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma assisted the family with arrangements.
