Danen, Kathleen A. "Kay"
Kathleen A. "Kay" Danen, 75, De Pere, died peacefully Saturday, April 5, 2014 at a local hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 29, 1938, in Green Bay to James D. and Patricia K. (O'Donnel) Cantwell.
In 1956, she graduated from St. Joseph Academy. Kay later graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Milwaukee and practiced as an LPN. On November 8, 1958, she married Ralph R. Danen. Together they owned and operated Property Damage Appraisers for thirty years.
When her children were young, Kay volunteered as a leader for St. Joseph Parish Preschool. She also spent many years working with the 4H program. Kay was proud of her Irish heritage and was a founding member of the Shamrock Club of Northeastern Wisconsin. She actively participated with the Shamrock Club Dancers. For a number of years, Kay appeared with the Shamrock Club panel on the Annual Cerebral Palsy Telethon and had been named the VIP of the Year. Kay was a very active volunteer. She was especially proud of her volunteer work at St. Patrick Food Pantry, Cross Roads, the Center Project and St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter.
Kay is survived by six children and their spouses, Mary and Bill O'Brien, Linda and Mike Gentile, Lisa and Mike Frey, Steve and Carey Danen, Tricia and Mike MacDonald, and Mark and Jodi Danen; 14 grandchildren, Amber, Megan, Becky, Chelsea, Taylor, Colin, Grace, Sophie, Jess, Brett, Jamison, Iris, Alex, and Gabby; a great-grandson, Braylen; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy (Bud) Manning; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jim (Phyllis) Cantwell, Patrick Cantwell; two brothers-in-law, Wayne (Mary Ann) Danen, Dan (Barbara) Danen; a sister-in-law, Donna Cornelisen; her lifelong friend, Kay Schumacher; nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; a son, Jeffrey Danen; and her parents.
Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the corner of Suburban Dr. and Lourdes Ave., West De Pere, from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. David McElroy, O.Praem, Rev. James Neilson, O.Praem and Fr. Tim Shillcox, O.Praem concelebrating.
