Sargent, John W.

John W. Sargent, 74, of Fish Creek died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, after a short illness. Originally from Menominee, Mich., John was born to John A. Sargent and Ruth Miller on June 6, 1939. He served in the Navy from 1964-69 on the US Ship Shasta. John graduated from St. Mary's of Winona and Michigan State University with an MBA. He was president/owner of the Sargent and Potratz Advertising and PR Agency.

A lifelong sailor on the Great Lakes, John was thrilled to be aboard the sailboat Bantu with son, Matt when she won overall in the Chicago-Mackinac Race, 2005. John enjoyed being involved in many water activities and served on numerous race committees and functions of the Menominee Yacht Club. Locally he valued his involvement serving on the Board of Directors at the Peninsula School of Art, Gibraltar Historical Association, and at the community of Stella Maris Parish.

John often sailed to Door County, where he met his wife, Nancy (Kinsey). John is survived by his wife, his two sons, Matthew (Wendy) Sargent, grandchildren, Amanda and Owen, and Andrew (Jennifer) Sauter Sargent and grandchildren, Willa, Ivy, and Lake Sauter Sargent. He is also survived by his brother, James (Madeleine) Sargent, and sisters-in-law, Cynthia Sargent, Andrea (James) Jauquet, Barbara McKesson, and Lynn Vogt-Kinsey. One brother, Robert, and two brothers-in-law, Richard McKesson and Charles Kinsey preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Stella Maris Parish, Fish Creek site.
