Weed, Gene Leroy

Gene Leroy Weed, 71, passed away at his home in Grover, April 20, 2014. Born Feb. 8, 1943, son of the late Asa and Orlene (Joy) Weed, he graduated from Marinette High School in 1961. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. On March 9, 1968. he married the former Carolyn Johnson. Gene retired from Graetz Manufacturing. where he was employed for 44 years. His greatest joy was helping horses and the horse world lost a true friend.

Gene was a farrier for over 40 years, helping many horses recover from hoof problems to become champions. He trained and raced horses in Wisconsin during the bush track years.

Gene and his granddaughter, Katie, gamed many years in Norway, Mich., Marinette and Oconto Counties. The horse shows were special because of his many friends and family.

Gene is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Cheri; his grandchildren, Katie and Nick; four brothers, Robert (Sharon), Pulaski; Vern (Pam) and Don (Kathy), Porterfield; and Ken (Judy) of Peshtigo; many nieces, nephews and Nickers, his special four legged friend. Also survived by special friends, Don and Shannon, Joe and Sandy, Kathy, Rylee, John and Julie, Kim, and Kevin and Kimberly.

Family and friends may call Thursday, April 24, at Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home from 3 until time of a memorial service at 6 p.m. Rev. Kevin Dembinski will be officiating.
