Gertrude "Gertie" E. Heckmann, 94, Pulaski, died at home on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, with her sons at her side. She was born July 27, 1919, in Chicago, IL, and had lived in Pulaski for the past 10 years. Gertie was known for her baby afghans and her cookies, which everyone enjoyed.
Survivors include her children: Carol (Karl) Kaysen, Rhinebeck, NY, Gary Heckmann, LaSalle, IL, and Larry (Dawn) Heckmann, Krakow; her grandchildren: Julia (Gary) Szot, Jeff (Jennifer) Heckmann, Kara (John) Dyke, and Mackenzie Larsen; great-granchildren: Cassandra, Brenna, Nolan, and Garrin Szot, Jessica and Alyssa Heckmann, Natasha and Brody Frig, and Jayden Dyke; brother-in-law, Fred Heckmann, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Heckmann; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and one sister.
Friends may call at St. John Lutheran Church, 910 S. St. Augustine St., Pulaski, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Friday. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church, Pastor Larry Yaw officiating.
Gertie's family would like to thank her friend, Ethel, the staff of Unity Hospice, and Home Instead. A special thank you is also extended to Jenny, Terra, and Bubbles.
