Francois, Donald J.

Donald J. Francois, 84, Green Bay resident, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at a local nursing home. He was born July 7, 1930 in Green Bay to the late Clifford and Jennie (Nitka) Francois. He attended Green Bay East High School and at the age of sixteen began a career as a Tile Mason. Don was employed at H.J. Martin retiring after over 40 years of service. He was a member of the Wisconsin Tile Layers Union and the Brick Layers Union. Don was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed fishing and had a passion for waterfowl hunting. He and Sandra traveled the states and never missed the opportunity to play a game of Dominos. Don was a "professional" tinkerer. If something needed fixing, Don was the person to go to. He always had a story and the wingspan always grew.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra; eight children: Connie Francois, Oregon; Craig (Debra) Francois, Hortonville; James (Patti) Francois, Wasilla, Alaska and Dan (Denise) Francois, Green Bay; Jackie (Polarek) Madsen, Arizona; Jerry (Tami) Polarek and Jeff (Cathy) Polarek, all of Green Bay, John (Lisa) Polarek, Dover, TN; 22 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; two brothers, James (Sheri) Francois and Ronald Francois, all of Green Bay; two sisters, Beverly (Gerald) Kaster, Green Bay and Shirley Krause, Escanaba, MI; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Francois, son-in-law, Kim Madsen, a brother-in-law, James Krause and three sisters-in-law, Judy Francois, Peggy (James) Waldrip and Teresa (Pat) Barber.

Friends may call at the Green Bay Community Church, 600 Cardinal Lane, Howard, after 4:00 pm Monday until the time of service. Funeral Service 6:30 pm Monday at the church with Rev. Kim Sechler officiating. Burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of floral expressions a memorial fund has been established in his name. On-line condolences may be sent to the Francois family at

Don's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of St. Vincent's 9th floor, Rennes Healthcare and Unity Hospice. Their care and concern for Don and his family will always be remembered.
