Giesler Jr., John M.

John M. Giesler Jr., 71, Abrams, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014, at home with his family at his side. He was born August 22, 1942, in Green Bay to John "Jack" and Beatrice (Gillis) Giesler Sr. John graduated from West High School in 1960. On April 4, 1964, he married Doris Rodaer at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

John worked for the Green Bay Fire Department for 31 years and retired as Battalion Chief. He loved the outdoors and truly enjoyed his cabin in Athelstane, which he referred to as "God's Country". He was an avid Beagler and proudly raised four field champions. John loved riding his Harley, was an active member in the Wildfire H.O.G. Chapter of Peshtigo and enjoyed cooking for all the Vandervest Harley Dealership events. He was also a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish.

John is survived by his wife, Doris; his daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Dave Touchet, and Sandra and Jim Levins; two granddaughters, Rachel Kinnard and Sydney Levins; his sister, Jackie Williams. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law, Janet (Lee) Hermsen, Barbara Rodaer, Marleen Rodaer and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Loretta Rodaer; brothers-in-law, Wayne Williams, Ronald Rodaer, and Richard Rodaer and sister-in-law, Judy (Jerry) Wendricks.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 6. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, St. John Cantius Site, 6051 Noble St., Sobieski from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. Gerald Prusakowski O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park. A memorial fund has been established in John's name.

The family expresses their deep gratitude to the staffs of Unity Hospice, Green Bay Oncology, especially Dr. Volk; and his family and friends who helped John during this last year.
