Richard Ver Strate

Richard E. Ver Strate, 77, Abrams, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 9, 2014, while vacationing in Eagle River. The son of Edward and Emily (Schoen) Ver Strate was born December 2, 1936 in Sheboygan County. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. On December 31, 1960, he married Jean Stout at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Brandon.

Richard drove semi for Carver Yacht and other area trucking companies for over 30 years. He also drove shuttle busses in Oneida before his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially for muskie, in Eagle River. He spent quite a few years moose hunting in Canada. Richard and Jean loved to travel, and spent the past several winters in Arizona.

In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by one son, Scott Ver Strate, Eagle River; one grandson, Christopher and two great-grandsons. He his further survived by Jean's family, LeRoy (Lorraine) Holl, Abrams, and Donald (Sue) Wegner, Fond du Lac.

He was preceded in death by his three children, Bonnie Jean, Judith Ann, and an infant son, his parents, and one brother Robert.

Private family services were held.
