Teyulelu Cornelius Obituary

Teyulelu Debra Cornelius, age 57, passed on March 25, 2012 at Bellin Hospital surrounded by her family following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 9, 1954 to the late Levi and Servilla (Skenandore) Webster in Green Bay.

As a young woman her passion for art in the Native American culture evolved into a teaching career. She loved Native American dancing, culture, art, music, and made fabulous corn soup.

Teyulelu was a part of the Echo Hawk Theater prior to graduating from UWGB and beginning her teaching career. She taught at Oneida Nation Schools for over 20 years. She continued to further her education and stressed the value of a good education to her children.

Family was a very important part of her life, especially her grandchildren, and she was always willing to help others.

She is survived by her best friend and husband for over 32 years Weston Cornelius, Nashville, TN; five children: Servilla (Dowe Thomas) Van Dyke, Green Bay; Kilabrew (Jean) Van Dyke, Green Bay; Yako (fiance Donovan Killspotted) Webster, Green Bay; Mae (Christopher) Cornelius, Oneida; Leah (Nate) Smith, Nashville, TN; 20 grandchildren: Lostosles, Shantel, Christian, Lanuhkwatslwise, Kirsten, Micgwire, Marissa, Connie, Daris, Janaiya, Leilana, Johnny, Mateo, Osakwalha, Charlotte, DeAngelo, Lijah, SIR, Sincere, and one on the way.

Teyulelu is further survived by five sisters: Alice Smith, Kansas; Charlotte (Mark) Walschinski, Oneida; Mary (Duane) Prescott, Indiana; Genevieve (William) Gollnick, Oneida; Catherine Webster, TN; one brother, Kenneth Webster, Milwaukee; sisters-in-law: Jackie Webster, TN; Elizabeth (Howard) Cornelius, Debra (Pastor Marvin) Wilber , Kathy Webster, Dee Cornelius; great aunts: Mae Baxter and Maria Hinton; special friend Dale Skenandore; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Mark Van Dyke; brothers: Laverne, Thomas, Victor, Adam, Gerald, Cletus, and one sister Evangeline Delgado.

Friends may call at Oneida Longhouse, W370 Reformatory Road, Oneida, WI, beginning at 6 PM on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 (today) and continuing until services on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 10 AM. Bob Brown will be officiating. Interment will take place at Holy Apostles Parish Cemetery, Oneida.

Shekoli,

I and Kathe offer our deepest condolences with the passing of your sister, mother, auntie, grandmother, our friend. We heard about it when we were far far away out of town on vacation. She certainly has left a legacy that everybody can be proud of. Shukwayatisu called her back to be with her loved ones who have gone on before her and to enjoy the "great rest" for eternity that she so deserves.

To Servilla, Killabrew, Yako, Mae, Leah, Weston, Cathy, Mary, Gen, Tina Danforth, Cathy Delgado and all other family members.

I will always remember and cherish the time I spent with Deb (Teyulelu) Webster Cornelius. She was a very Oneida girl who made others so proud to be Oneida. I didn't realize her illness was terminal. I really didn't know what was taking place and I have been so very sad since I heard of her passing. I regret not saying good bye to her. Blessings to you all at this time. And Deb I know the strawberries taste so good along the starry path to the sky world where you will be with you parents and family forever.

Peace to you all from
Pamela Green LaBarge and family.

Rest in peace Teyulelu. Your positive spirit cheered me on in my last few years of working next to you. For the family, I will remember Teyulelu in my prayers as she returns to her Creator.

To the entire Cornelius Clan,
I am thankful that my wife Sonya and I could take a place beside your family through the warmth and generosity of Teyulelu's Spirit. I am sad that this message come's through the coldness of the computer, rather than the warmth of a smile or hug which Deb would have preferred or offered, which we, in turn, would wish to offer each of you. My time with the BIA would have been more difficult, shallower, and less focused without her aquaintance and guidance. My career and life will have an empty space that her Spirit used to fill. I know your Family and Tribe share this emptiness with each of us. We know that her wisdom and strength were an important part of this journey each of us is on...she has been a source of strength for me that I will continue to hold on to, and we shared some common vision from past and present that I am grateful for, and for the knowledge that she generously shared.

On Tuesday night, the Owl's sang for her Spirit...last night the Coyote's sang as well, at our home in Kentucky.
The Earth has one more dark place, but the sky has one more star in it because of Teyulelu's passing.

Our prayers will be for each of you as you grieve and remember her in each of your own ways. I will hold onto her strength and look forward to meeting her again in our Maker's Land where I know she is finally at peace.
Peace from our Family to Yours...

Wes and Leah, a special hug to each of you for your strength and care through all of Deb's trials...Thank you.

To the family of Debbie,
My prayers go out to the family during this difficult time. I'll always remember the good times that we shared throughout the years. We shared some good laughs and great stories and she always had a beautiful smile on her face when I would run into her. Although I had not seen her for a few years I always think of her whenever I see her children, I see her smile in yous and pray that you find comfort in the memories and know that she has found peace in the creators land. love and peace...Monica, Bla and family

Dey, was a big part of our circle of friends who worked together at the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Her compassion and love of family was evident upon meeting her, and only became more apparent the longer I knew her. I will truly miss her. My thoughts are with her family and their tremendous loss. I will always have fond memories of Dey, and remember her as a friend. Much love, Peggy Carmack, co-worker
