Norbert "Stub" Stauber, age 90, of Laona passed away peacefully on November 15, 2012. Norbert was born in Park Falls, Wisconsin on June 6, 1922, the youngest child of Frank and Anna (Treml) Stauber.
His family moved to Laona when he was 7 years old. Norbert married Lucille Bocher on September 30, 1943. Together they raised nine children.
Stub graduated from Laona High School, a member of the Class of 1940. He enlisted in the U.S Coast Guard in September 1942 and served in the South Pacific at Guam, Okinawa, and the Philippines. He was a Gunner's Mate 1st Class on LST 71, honorably discharged in November 1945.
Stub worked for Connor Forest Industries from his high school graduation until his retirement in 1984 as Personnel Director.
He was very proud to be a charter member of Cook-Elfors VFW Post 6823 and served in various roles, including Post Commander, Quartermaster, and District Commander. He was a Laona volunteer firefighter for many years and served as Assistant Chief. After his retirement, he volunteered as a driver for the Laona Rescue Unit.
During his lifetime Norbert served the Town of Laona in the elected offices of Assessor, Supervisor, and Treasurer.
Stub is survived his wife Lucille, children Norbert (Cathy) of DePere; Linda White of Green Bay; Nancy (Don) Schroder of Rhinelander; Barbara Cleereman of Cavour; Lucy (Dale) O'Keefe of Appleton; Steve (Juli) of Wisconsin Rapids; Jeff (Shelly) of Green Bay; and Gregg (Debbie) of Laona. He is further survived by 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Norbert was preceded in death by his youngest son Todd and grandson Christopher. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorna "Dolly" Medenwaldt; brothers Alvin and Clement.
Friends may call at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home, 302 S Lake St., Crandon, WI from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon at the funeral home, Pastor Bill Farr officiating. Burial to follow at the Laona Cemetery.
