Burich, Joseph C.
The Guest Book is expired.
Joseph C. Burich, 89, traveled on his final journey into the loving arms of our Lord on December 13, 2012. He was truly one of the good guys.
Joe was currently a resident at Rivers Bend Health Care Center in Manitowoc and had previously resided at 810 Schroeder Drive, Manitowoc in the house that he and his wife built in 1954.
Joe was born in Reedsville, Wisconsin on July 29, 1923 to Charles and Mary (Jerabek) Burich. He graduated from Brillion High School with the class of 1940 and went on to study at the University of Minnesota until Uncle Sam came calling.
Joe was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps serving from 1943 to 1946 and held the rank of sergeant. He was a flight engineer instructor on a C-54 cargo transport plane based out of Lincoln, NB. One of his proudest moments was to be participating in an "Old Glory Honor Flight" on August 31, 2010. In his words "we did it".
After the war, Joe came back to Wisconsin and married the former Alice Kuczkowski of Milwaukee on April 12, 1947. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on September 23, 2010. He was a loving and devoted husband, caring for Alice in her final years.
Always mechanically inclined, Joe's chosen profession was the automotive field. He was a body shop foreman and service writer for the Hamacheck dealership (now Pietroske) and went on to work for Wisconsin Auto Damage Appraisers and Professional Auto Damage Appraisers providing services throughout the Fox River Valley and Northern Michigan for over 25 years. Joe was well respected for his knowledge and fair mindedness.
Joe had a quick wit and took pleasure in making people laugh. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, walking his dogs, having coffee with his "Romeo" club friends and striking up a conversation with anyone he met. He was curious by nature and never stopped reading and learning. He had a prodigious vocabulary and reveled in using it. Joe loved all types of music and was blessed with the gift of a beautiful voice. He was a long time communion distributor at the former St. Paul's Parish in Manitowoc which is now St. Francis of Assisi.
Joe is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Bonnie (Paul) Simons of Manitowoc and their children Amanda and Adam (Elizabeth); Linda (Sam) Jensen, Batavia, Ohio and their son, Greg; two special great-grandchildren Mia and Mason; three sisters, Helen Gosz, Green Bay, Mildred Orth, Manitowoc and Alyce Ott, DePere. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, an infant son, Bruce Anthony, his parents Charles and Mary Burich, brother John Burich, sisters Mary Kanter and Julia Grasser. Brothers in law and sisters in law George Kanter, John Gosz, Raymond Grasser, Fritz Ott, Delores Burich, Jack and Barbara Kuczkowski and Ray and Irene Kuczkowski.
