Meyer, Lester "Les" William

Lester "Les" William Meyer, age 85, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully at Pine Manor Nursing Home in Embarrass on December 16, 2012.

Les was born May 2, 1927, to William and Mathilda (Clayton) Meyer at Hickory Corners, Oconto County. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Shawano High School in 1945. He served in the armed forces in World War II.

On March 31, 1951, he was united into marriage to Henrietta Buelow. He was a student at UW Platteville at the time and graduated in 1953. He taught Industrial Arts for two years at Drummond High School before accepting the Industrial Arts teaching position at Bonduel High School where he taught for 34 years until his retirement in 1989.

Les enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins for the grandkids, stamp collecting, fishing, bridge and had a passion for golf. He was a member of the St. Paul Senior Citizens, Golden Sands Golf Course, Shawano County Retired Teachers Association, Bonduel Lions Club and Cecil XYZ Club.

He is survived by his children, a son, Daniel (Susan) Meyer, Shawano; two daughters, Laurie (John) Byrnes, Simpsonville, South Carolina; Judy Meyer, Wrightstown; 15 grandchildren, Joshua and Jennifer Meyer; Nicole Beyer; Natalie (Jason) Jacobson; Virginia (Jed) Meidam; Matthew Beyer; Andrea and Jerrod VanOudenhoven; Katie and Jenny Byrnes, Robert (Becky) Byrnes, James Byrnes; Matthew (Rachel) Zarter; Michael and Sarah Zarter; seven great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Evangeline Blaser; Adrian Moon; Vivian and Jocie Byrnes; Taylor Vieaux; Harper Zarter; sisters, Dottie Merrill, St. Paul, MN; Marge Graff, Saginaw, Michigan; Magdeline Martin, Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters-in-law, Carol Meyer, Omro; Arlene Buelow, Shawano; Florence Buelow, Bonduel; brother-in-law, Rev. Leonard (Carola) Buelow, Green Bay; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Henrietta; two granddaughters, Allison Voorhees and Emily Meyer; sisters, Louise Koch; Agnes Buelow; Delores Habeck; a brother, Bernard Meyer.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012, at St Paul Lutheran Church, town of Washington (County Hwy E), with the Rev Steven Pockat officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil is assisting the family.

A special thank you to the staff at Kindred Hearts Assisted Facility, Green Bay and Pine Manor Nursing Home, Embarrass for caring for our father for the past several years.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Lester's name to the will be accepted.
