Cramer, John Alvin

John Alvin Cramer, 78, Suring, passed away on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Woodland Village Nursing Home. John was born on Aug. 12, 1934, to the late William and Anna (Bieneman) Cramer in Waterford, Wis. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in Burlington in 1952. He graduated from Marquette University with a mechanical engineering degree in 1956 and was drafted into the Army 1956 to 1958. He worked in steel mills in Gary, Ind. and Waukesha, Wis. He moved to Surin in 1973 and owned and operated Cramers Little Valley, where he was noted for making John's homemade potato chips. On Oct. 29, 1983, he married Fern (Strehlow) Yakel. He also worked at Greatz Manufacturing, Friday Canning, and Universal Converting. John and Fern moved to Ohio in 1988, where John was instrumental in starting the Cozie Company. John retired to Suring in 1995 and taught several classes in Shawano and Oconto Falls for NWTC. John enjoyed making driftwood arrangements, doing number puzzles, playing games on his laptop computer and at the casino. John is a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Suring and Knights of Columbus.

John is survived by his wife, Fern (Strehlow-Yakel), Suring; three daughters, Debbie (Carroll) Fabry, Suring; Tammy (Mark) Riordan, Madison; Sandy (Tom) School, Green Bay; a son, Patrick (Dawn) Cramer, Arizona; eihgt grandchildren; six step-children, Jay Yakel, Abrams; Jean (Robert) Greggs, Hobart; Joan (Tim) Tice, St. Francis; Robert (Lisa) Yakel, Kansas; Kim (Jesse) Kern, Crandon; Rusty (Pam) Yakel, Eau Claire; 13 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, James (Millie) Cramer, Jerry (Tootie) Cramer, Kenny Cramer; a sister, Ruth (Bob) Diehl.

John was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn; his brother, William; his step-grandson, Joshua Wech; and his sister-in-law, Joanne Cramer.

Visitation will be held at St Michael Catholic Church in Suring on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. with Father Dean Dombroski officiating. John will be interred in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Spring. Online condolences can be expressed at
