Dawn Van Hoosen, 64, Allouez, succumbed to brain cancer Friday, January 11, 2013, after a courageous battle. She was born on Leap Day, February 29, 1948, and celebrated her 16th birthday this past year. Dawn was a 1966 graduate of De Pere High School and attended UW-Green Bay where she met her husband. On August 29, 1970, she married Dan Van Hoosen at First Presbyterian Church in De Pere. She was a 1971 graduate of UW-LaCrosse and later completed her Master's Degree in Education.
Dawn was employed by the Ashwaubenon School District from 1971 to 2003, mainly at Parkview Middle School. She coached volleyball at the high school and track and field at the middle school.
Dawn was an avid golfer and a former member of both Shorewood and Ledgeview Golf Courses. She enjoyed tennis, volleyball, dancing and skiing and was a member of the ski patrol.
She will be missed by her husband, Dan, whom she thoroughly enjoyed beating at golf; her father, Jacob Sterk, Rockford, MI; her sister and best friend, Phyllis (Donald) Elsing, Rockford, MI; a brother Kevin (Dawn) Sterk, Los Lunas, NM; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanette (VanderVelde) Sterk; her twin brother, Dean; an infant brother, Dwayne; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harlen and LaVerne Van Hoosen.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at Unity Hospice, everyone on the Bellin Cancer Team, the staff at Bellin Physical Therapy, Dr. Kelly Lynch and Dr. Edie Krueger for the compassionate care shown to Dawn. Special thanks are also extended to our friends who assisted us during these trying times.
