Alvin J. Athey, 81, Village of Howard, passed away at his home on Friday, May 3, 2013. He was born in Duck Creek on June 1, 1931 to the late Alfred and Evelyn (Johnson) Athey. Alvin served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He married Shirley Van Enkenvort on Sept. 17, 1955 at Grace Lutheran Church in Green Bay. Alvin was employed at A&P Cheese Warehouse in Green Bay and Plymouth, Beatrice Cheese (formerly Pauly Cheese), Sears Automotive and Van's Fire & Safety. He loved snowmobiling, camping with family and friends, woodworking and yard work. Alvin enjoyed going to Gary and Judi's cottage, spending time with family and friends and most of all the time spent in the swimming pool with the grandchildren. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and the Ice Bowl was the best. His favorite vacations were their Hawaii trip and the three cruises with friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley; children, Mark J. Athey; Brenda (Jon) Dombrowski; grandchildren, Megan Pasterski; Ashley and Mackenzie Athey; Nicholas and Brooke Dombrowski; sister, Shirley (Don) Steinbrecher; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary (Judi) Van Enkenvort.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Marie (Jim) Huben; brother and sister-in-law, Norbert (Helen) Athey; in-laws, Francis (Irene) Van Enkenvort.
Family and friends may call at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Howard-Suamico location, 1145 Cardinal Lane, on Monday, May 6 from 4 until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 until 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Howard, 2736 Glendale Ave. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Pastor Frank Kauzlarich officiating.
