Norbert L. Traeger, Sr., 87, Green Bay, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013. He was born September 14, 1925, in Gresham, to Joseph and Louise (Lagers) Traeger.
Norbert was a graduate of Gresham High School, Class of 1943. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Pacific Theater with the Red Arrow Division 128th Infantry Regiment. Norbert was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war, he attended St. Norbert College. On June 12, 1948, he married Dolores Lewandowski at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Norbert worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1985. His family was his life and together they went on trips, fishing and visiting relatives. Norbert will be remembered for his sense of humor and big heart.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores; his children and their spouses, Norbert Jr. and Diane Traeger, Michael and Holley Traeger, Monica and Joseph Gosz, Louis and Linda Traeger, James and LeeAnn Traeger, Edward and Kelly Traeger, Joseph and Kathy Traeger, Lee and Olga Traeger, Ellen and Douglas LeDuc, Charles and Rose Traeger, Janis and Kennan Timm; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Bernice) Traeger; two sisters, Doris (Jim) Hoffman, Sister Margie Traeger, O.S.F.; sisters-in-law, Anne Lewandowski, Josephine Smith, Jane Morin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Norbert was preceded in death by two infant sons, Joseph and Richard; his parents; his sisters, Mary Waegli, Beverly Longrie, Dorothy Sticha, Joann Splitgerber; and his uncle Frank, who was like a second father to him.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Friday. A Prayer Service will be held at 9:50 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by a funeral procession to St. Joseph Chapel on the Green Bay Catholic Diocesan Grounds. A Requiem Mass in the Traditional Latin Rite will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Joseph Chapel with Canon Andreas Hellmann from the Institute of Christ the King officiating. A memorial fund has been established to benefit the Veterans Hospital of Wisconsin.
