Cottingham, Donald R.

Donald R. Cottingham, 77, Green Bay, died peacefully Wednesday, July 24, 2013, following a lengthy illness. He was born June 10, 1936, in Lancaster, WI, to William and Harriet (Paul) Cottingham.

Donald was the Senior Class President at Fennimore High School, Class of 1954. In 1958, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Psychology. He was also in the U.S. ROTC. On August 13, 1960, Donald married Sandra Jean Moede at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. He retired as a Supervisor at Fort Howard Paper, now Georgia Pacific, in 1995, after 36 years of service. Donald was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, as well as a member of many committees. He was also a member of the Green Bay Toastmasters and played in the doubles tennis league at Western Racquet Club. Donald enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing bridge.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Sandy; a son, Randy Cottingham and his partner, James Burns, both of San Diego, CA; a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and June Cottingham, Fennimore, WI; a niece, Phyllis Wenzel; a nephew, Gary Cottingham; and close family friends, Ruth and Dave Christophersen and their family.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Chaplain Anna Noll of Heartland Hospice officiating. Entombment will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park Mausoleum.
