Donna Mae McNurlen
The Guest Book is expired.
"And all the boys chased her," our Grandma Kruse told us. Thank goodness Bob McNurlen finally caught her on May 19, 1962.
Donna Mae McNurlen, Lena, passed through to her heavenly home August 12, 2013 following a brave battle with cancer. Born in Sauk City, WI to farming couple Herman and Eva Kruse, she was the youngest of four children - Glen, Delores, Bobby and then Donna Mae. Irish Valley and the surrounding areas of Black Hawk, Leland, Baraboo and Sauk City were vitally important to her life. She made sure that they became important to her children as well.
Fiercely independent with devilish spirit, she made life very interesting for those around her; especially the five children she loved so much - Connie, Laurie, Lynn, David, and Dan. She kept us all healthy, made sure we got fed, took us to church, and pushed us through school. Everything else was our responsibility; self-reliance was a wonderful gift she passed on to us all.
She played the "Grandma Card" with Robert, Josh, Natalie, and Hayden. They got away with far more than we ever did, and she loved each of them. Her pets were very special to her, as well as the birds and animals she fed in her backyard. She even liked the ones that, "stole her corn." Mom, we told you, that is simply not possible.
It was love at first sight with Bob McNurlen. "He was so handsome in his baseball uniform," she always told us, even though she had no interest in sports. Dad left us far too early back in 1984, she has finally returned to his side.
"Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be. The futures not ours to see, Que sera sera," this is the song I remember Mom singing to us when we were small. It is also the way she approached each day of her life, she will be greatly missed. Friends and relatives are invited for visitation Thursday August 15th at Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home, 438 W. Main St., Lena from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. and Friday August 16th at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Lena from 10 A.M. until the time of Funeral Services at 12 Noon with Pastor Ryan Landwehr officiating. Donna will be placed to rest at Our Savior Lutheran Cemetery, Spruce. Please visit rhodescharapata.com to express online condolences and to view a video tribute.
