Bernard DuChateau Obituary

DuChateau, Bernard F. "Bernie"

Bernard F. "Bernie" DuChateau, 92, Green Bay, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014. He was born June 21, 1921, in Green Bay to Benjamin and Lucy (Lagers) DuChateau.

In February of 1941, Bernie enlisted in the U.S. Navy for a six year term. He arrived in Pearl Harbor in May of 1941 and was assigned to the U.S.S. Dale 353. After just finishing breakfast and visiting with fellow crewman on the ammunition locks on the fantail of the ship, the Japanese attacked the U.S. Naval fleet on that Sunday morning on December 7, 1941. On April 7, 1945, Bernie married Pauline Tamrack in Green Bay. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2004. For 23 years Bernie worked for the Milwaukee Road Railroad and later started his own concrete business in 1960, called Arrow Concrete. He enjoyed trap shooting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bernie is survived by his children and their spouses, Gerri Herold, Allan and Donna DuChateau, Craig and Roni DuChateau, and Sandy Deprado; seven grandchildren, Deborah (Gary) Johnson, Lynn (Jim) Dufrane, David (Christey) Herold, Brian (Nadine) DuChateau, Nicole (Fred) Shreiner, Jamie Pagel (and her special friend, Wes), Kody (Carrie) DuChateau; great-grandchildren, Ben, Abby, Jordan, Henry, Wyatt, Michael, Cole, Trace, Gabriel, Madeline, Gage, Deegan, Keira, Dominic; and many nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; his parents; two brothers, Cliff and Ralph; and a son-in-law, Don Herold.

Friends may call at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1420 Division St., from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Donald Everts officiating. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

Bernie's family would like to extend a special thank you to Deacon Nick Williams, the staff of St. Mary's Hospital, and special friends Bob and Mary Young for many Monday nights of card playing.
