Joyce Lucille (Zahn) Hansen, 83, Howard, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 20, 2014.

The daughter of Fred and Lucille (Frank) Zahn, was born on March 29, 1931, and raised at the L. H. Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve in Suamico where her father was caretaker of the grounds. As a young girl living at the Barkhausen, she acquired a rich love of nature and all living things. Joyce especially cherished all of her pets through her life, from the family pet fox in her childhood until most recently Bobbie, her cat. She loved to feed birds, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, stray cats and neighborhood dogs everywhere she lived.

Joyce graduated from Green Bay West High School with the Class of 1949. She met her husband, Wallie E. Hansen, Jr., on a blind date. They eloped on January 7, 1955, and moved to Texas where Wallie worked as a border guard as they began their life together. They returned to Green Bay, where she raised their family of three boys; Steven and twins Daniel and David, while Wallie worked as a police officer for the City of Green Bay. After Wallie retired, they moved to Laredo Lane where Joyce continued to live after Wallie's death in July 2009, until she became a resident of Tender Hearts Assisted Living in June, 2012.

Joyce was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Green Bay.

She is survived by son, Steven Hansen, Green Bay; son, David (Mary) Hansen, Suamico and grandchildren Taylor (Shannon) Hansen, Howard and Tracy (Luke) Gasek, Anchorage, AK; two sisters, Barb (Frank) Slezewski, Pulaski; and Pat Miller, Green Bay; sisters-in-law, Norena Zahn, Green Bay; Doris McRoberts, Appleton; Unadeen Wendricks, Green Bay; Sandra (Allen) Ellis, Appleton; and Naomi (Elmer) Schouten, De Pere; brother-in-law, John (Nancy) Hansen, Green Bay; and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallie E. Hansen, Jr.; beloved son, Daniel Hansen; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Ken Fischer; brother, Skip Zahn; nephew, Wyatt Zahn; brothers-in-law, Fred Miller, Maurie McRoberts, and Hubert Wendricks; and her parents.

Friends may call at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1350 Bond St., from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday. The Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Amy Engebose officiating.
