Waddell, Dorothy - Taylors  
Dorothy Waddell Taylors Dorothy Sue Vaughan Waddell, 82, wife of Colonel Ralph David Waddell Jr., USAF (Ret.), passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Taylors. Dorothy was born in Ramer, TN, December 15, 1932, to the late Lemuel G. and Ruth Farris Vaughan. She attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX, graduating in May 1954 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Home Economics. She married 1st Lieutenant Waddell on May 5, 1956. In 1969, Dorothy received her Master's of Science Degree in Textiles from Texas Women's University. Together they travelled extensively to various Air Force assignments for 26 years and in 1981, they moved to Greenville, SC. Mrs. Waddell enjoyed raising her children, cooking, sewing, sailing, and golfing and continued to travel after retirement. She, Ralph and their dog, Pete, travelled to all the contiguous States, enjoying leisurely visiting the National Parks. Mrs. Waddell was a member of the Women in Christ Sunday School Class at John Knox Presbyterian Church. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 58 years, are her three children, Nancy Waddell Grigsby (Jim), David Vaughan Waddell (Sue) and Ellen Waddell Crumbaker (David); two sisters, Lucille Russell and Elinor Warren; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lemuel F. Vaughan. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 28, 2015 in the sanctuary of John Knox Presbyterian Church. Waddell, Mabel Frances Mahaffey - Simpsonville  
Mabel Frances Mahaffey Waddell Simpsonville Mabel Waddell, 72 years old, of Simpsonville, wife of the late Keith Waddell, answered the call of her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, March 1, 2015. She was a daughter of the late Horace and Mamie Lou Carlton Mahaffey. Born in Taylors, S.C. her parents settled in Simpsonville where she lived the last 68 years of her life. Mrs. Waddell was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Senior Ladies BFC, Simpsonville. She attended Hillcrest High School, retired from Carolina Blouse of Greenville and was self-employed. She is survived by two brothers, Alvin and Warren (Linda) Mahaffey, both of Simpsonville; two nieces and twelve nephews. Apart from loving her Lord and her Church, she enjoyed early morning walks at the Senior Action Center in Simpsonville, Gospel concerts, going on trips to Springmaid, Church fellowships and traveling to Niagara Falls and on a cruise to Hawaii. Mabel thoroughly enjoyed having her family and friends in her home on special occasions. Her home was always full for meals at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her family considered her the "family historian." Her family would like to thank all those that called, sent cards, prayed, and visited Mabel during her illness. A special thanks to Bobbie Dixon for being a faithful care-giver. A Funeral Service for Mrs. Waddell will be held on Wednesday, March 4 at 2:00 PM at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Brett Aiken officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at Cannon Memorial Park. The family requests that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to: the Building Fund, Temple Baptist Church, 213 W. Curtis Street, Simpsonville, S.C. 29681. Myra Whitmire Gaffney Myra Peterson Whitmire, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of James Clyde Whitmire and the daughter of the late Clyde William Peterson and Ruth Brown Peterson. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and was retired from The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation and Temple Baptist Church. She was also a former piano player for Christian Heights Baptist Church and organist for Kirby Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Whitmire was very artistic, had a great love for others and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, also surviving are two daughters, Deborah Davis and husband, Calvin of Gaffney and Elizabeth Duffie and husband, Neal of the home; two brothers, Bill Peterson and wife, Diana of Cowpens and Jeff Peterson and wife, Patty of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Tina Volpe and husband, Phil of Lancaster, NY; three grandchildren, Ashley Turner and husband, Daniel, Jennifer Joyner and husband, Jack and Matt Duffie; and five great-grandchildren, Marilyn Turner, Clay Turner, Waylon Turner, Jaden Joyner and Priscilla Joyner. Mrs. Whitmire was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Denny Turner. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Blakely Funeral Home. Sharon Whitten Greenville Sharon Lee Whitten, 75, passed away March 1, 2015. Born in Detroit, MI, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Juanita Hampton Boggs. Sharon was retired from the US Postal Service, and was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Surviving are six children, Robert Whitten, Beth Whitten (Deb Reese), Ragan Marling, Stan Whitten (Lisa), Nita Trammell (Dean), and Dana Whitten (Nickki); and one sister, Beverly Cureton. She was 'Shama' to 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held at noon, Fri., Mar. 6 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 11 AM. Wilkins, McMurry - Greenville  
McMurry "Murry" Wilkins III Greenville McMurry "Murry" Wilkins III died Friday, February 27, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 10, 1946 in Winston-Salem, NC, he was the oldest child of the late McMurry Wilkins, Jr. and Ruth Cochran Wilkins. They moved to Greenville in 1948 where his grandparents lived, the late Bonnie Lear and McMurry Wilkins, Sr., and the late Tommie Farr and John Maxcy Cochran, Sr. Murry graduated from Wade Hampton High School and attended Montreat-Anderson College, now Montreat College, in Montreat, NC. He worked for Winn Dixie in Pompano Beach, FL and Greenville, SC for more than thirty years before retiring. He then worked for more than ten years at The Fresh Market in Greenville. He enjoyed his work, was a favorite of customers, and was beloved by his coworkers. Surviving are a son, McMurry Todd Wilkins of Lake Junaluska, NC, of who he was very proud; a sister, Janice Cochran Wilkins of Greenville; a brother, Cary Cochran Wilkins of North Augusta, SC; and an uncle, John Maxcy Cochran, Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Greenville. The funeral service will be held at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 with Ken Bogan officiating. The family will be at the home of his sister, Janice Cochran Wilkins. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, therapists, and caregivers at NHC HealthCare, Greenville, and St. Francis Hospital.
