Beard, Margaret D. - Anderson  
Margaret D. Beard Anderson Margaret Ann Dusenberry Beard, age 93, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at NHC of Anderson. Born on August 19, 1922 in Due West, SC, she was the daughter of the late George Reid and Evalina Radcliffe Dusenberry. Margaret grew up on a farm in Due West. For sixty-six years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late Dr. Joseph Roderick Beard until his death in 2010. Mrs. Beard graduated Valedictorian of her class at Dixie High School in Due West, and was also Valedictorian of her graduating class at Erskine College where she received a BA degree in Mathematics and English. During WW II, she worked as a mathematician at Aberdeen, Maryland Proving Grounds. After her marriage, she began her lifelong journey of being a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a faithful member of Young Memorial A.R.P. Church in Anderson where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was a long time member of the Flora Halliday Circle. She was honored with the Flora Halliday Award given for unselfish service to the Church. Margaret enjoyed decorating her home and church for special occasions and was a gracious hostess who opened her home willingly to others. She enjoyed a love for music for many years. Having played French horn, bass violin, and piano, she often entertained her children and grandchildren at the piano bench with music and singing. Survivors include a son, Joseph Roderick "Rick" Beard, Jr. (Julie) of Alpharetta, GA; five daughters, Ellen Martin (Skeet) of Greenville, SC, Ann Shahid (Ron) of Ridgeville, SC, Cherrie Sneed (Dan) of Meggett, SC, Ruth Boetsch (Gary) of Fort Mill, SC, and June Copeland (Brent) of Anderson; a brother, Francis Clarence Dusenberry of Hampton, VA; a sister-in-law, Peggy Beard Murdock, Rock Hill, SC; eight grandchildren, Will Sneed (Jill), Page Martin Mathias (Greg), Louis Martin (Janell), Eric Boetsch (Kelley), John Boetsch (Catherine), Daniel Shahid, Brent Copeland, Jr., and Maisie Copeland Hall (Andrew); also surviving are fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Joseph, Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by a brother, George Reid Dusenberry, Jr.; three sisters, Katherine Daniel, Virginia Dean, Sophie Meadors; and two grandchildren, John Meador Sneed and Laurel Marie Copeland. A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor the life of Margaret Beard will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Young Memorial A.R.P. Church, with the Reverend Doctor L. Thomas Richie officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Rainey Room at Young Memorial. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at Huntersville A.R.P. Church Cemetery, Huntersville, NC. Brock, Joe Harold  
Joe Harold Brock Simpsonville Joe Harold Brock, 76, of Simpsonville, husband of Kay Sawyer Brock, died Monday, May 23, 2016. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Clyde Dexter and Grace Perry Brock. Joe retired from GE, Quality Control, after thirty years of service. He was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors, in addition to his wife of 32 years, include three daughters, Kathy South-Byrd (Grady), Lorrie Brock (Eddie), and Kim Brock; three sons, David Hall (Beverly), John Vigil (Brenda), and Richard Brock; eight grandchildren, Meagan Murtha, T. J. South, Erika Harmon, Josh Byrd, Jeremy German, Ashley Burnett, Katherine Hall, and Rachel Hall; and thirteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Kyle German. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast Chapel. Clendening, Frank L. - Pickens  
Frank L. Clendening Pickens Frank Leslie Clendening, 58, passed from this life on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Frank was born in Pensacola, FL a son of Daniel Boone Clendening of Cumming, GA and the late Jeanie Rush Clendening. Frank was employed with Bennett Equipment and Supply in heavy equipment sales. An active member of Porter's Chapel United Methodist Church, Frank played guitar and was the leader of the Praise Band, served as a lay leader, also taught Sunday School and was a former trustee. In addition to his love of music where he enjoyed praising The Lord, Frank loved to ride his motorcycle through the mountains and enjoyed spending time with his children whom he loved deeply. Survivors include his father, Daniel Boone Clendening of Cumming, GA, daughters, Gracie Blackwell (Matt) of North Augusta, SC, and Jessica Noble (Jon) of Beaufort, SC, sons, Zackery Sobin (Morgan) of Raleigh, NC, Russell Sobin (Jae) of Charlotte, NC, and Gray Haynes of Cleveland, SC. Also surviving are his siblings, Brett Clendening (Shelia) of Griffin, GA, Nancy Reaves (Brownie) of Cumming, GA, and Kate Wilsford of Bowling Green, KY and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 2 PM Friday, May 27, 2016 at Porter's Chapel United Methodist Church with The Reverend Dick Waldrep and The Reverend Don Alexander officiating. Thomas R. Finley Greenville Thomas R. Finley, 79, husband of the late Bonnie Mae Finley, died Monday, May 23, 2016. Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Pat and Cary Lawson Finley. Thomas served in the U.S. Army as an MP. He retired from GE Turbine where he worked as a welder. He is survived by son, James T. Finley and wife, Jean of Easley; granddaughter, Ryan Catherine Finley; grandson, J.T. Finley, Jr. both of Easley; and sister, Florie Sammons of Hephzibah, GA. Head, Shelba Tanner - Easley  
Shelba Tanner Head Easley, SC Mrs. Shelba Tanner Head, 78, of 304 Ross Avenue, Easley, loving wife of Jim Oliver Head, passed from this life on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Baptist Easley Hospital. Shelba was born in Pickens County on October 1, 1937 to the late Roy Rufus and Gladys Miller Tanner. She retired from the Pickens County School District as a teacher's assistant and library assistant. She loved to spend time with her family. Mrs. Head was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church and the Sara Smith Sunday School Class. In addition to her loving husband of 59 years, Shelba is survived by a son; Jim D. and Lynne Head of Rutherfordton, NC; two daughters; Sherry and Bill Lynch of Greenville and Gena and Andrew Roberts of Manhattan Beach, California; a brother; Johnny Tanner of Piedmont; and a sister; Donna Hall of Greenville. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Matthew Roberts, Ben Roberts, Katherine Head, and Laura Head; and three great-grandchildren; Kirra, Natalie, and Presley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson; Andrew Head. Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday prior to the service from 2:00 PM until 3:15 PM. The family is at the residence. Hines, Bronislawa "Bert" - Simpsonville  
Bronislawa "Bert" Hines Simpsonville Bronislawa "Bert" Ostrowski Hines of Simpsonville, S.C., widow of J. Harvey Hines, passed away peacefully at NHC Mauldin on May 13 due to complications from vascular dementia. Born in Connecticut in 1925, Bert was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Gill Ostrowski. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. Bert was a charter member (1972) of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She retired from Bank of America (C&S National Bank) in 1987 and was a member of C&S Bank Retirees Club, and a loyal volunteer at local nursing homes. After retiring, she enjoyed her favorite past time of playing bridge with her dear friends, working in the yard, swimming at the pool, and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are three daughters: Broni Holcombe (George) of Chester, Dede Ward (Jeff) of Simpsonville and Mary Nalley of Simpsonville; Six grandchildren- Gretchen H. Williams (Dee) of Lancaster, Jennifer H. Johnson (Bobby) of Charlotte, N.C., Dr. Lindsay Trammell of St. Louis, Mo., Jaime Trammell of Fountain Inn, Tyler Nalley (Rachael) and Madi Nalley, both of Simpsonville; great grandchildren Hunter and Will Williams, and Miles and Molly Johnson. She is also survived by brother -in-law W.L. Hines (Wesley Ann) and sister- in- law Helen Pirtle, all of Florida, along with one niece and three nephews, and long-time loving caregiver Alice Moss. A private family graveside service will be held. The families will be at their respective homes. James, John Thomas "Tom" - Mauldin  
Tom James Mauldin John Thomas "Tom" James, 85, husband of Sara Emily Newton James for 61 years, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23, 2016. Mr. James was born in Sandy Springs, SC to the late Jay James and Viola Lee James. He retired from the James Hunter Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea. He was a member of Mauldin United Methodist Church and a founding member of the former Mauldin Wesleyan Church. Tom was an active supporter of the Epworth Children's Home in Columbia and formerly served as a Chaplain with the American Legion Post #3 in Greenville. The most important thing in his life was his relationship with Jesus Christ. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Tommy James and wife Sherri; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Snipes and husband Mitch, Sonya James, Ryan James and Austin James. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Lloyd James; and two sisters, Laura and Edith. Funeral services will be 6 pm Wednesday at Fletcher Funeral Service. Burial will be 11:30 am Thursday at Memory Gardens in Central. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 4-6 pm.
