Arthur Vernon Self, Sr., 82, of 215 McDowell Street passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Laurens, he was a son of Elbert Smith and Ella Mae Roberts Self. Mr. Self was retired from CeramTec, a member of St. James United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are a son, Vernon Self and wife Liz of Laurens; two daughters, Lynn Self Riddle and Wanda Self Fulmer both of Laurens; sisters, Virginia Self Craine of St. George and Joan Smith and husband Harold of Mountville; brother, Gerald Self and wife Myrna of Laurens; four grandchildren, Keslyn F. Mendez, Brent Riddle, Keila Taylor and husband Frankie, and Trent Riddle; and five great grandchildren, Brandon and Carson Taylor, Lee and Natalie Mendez, and Madison Fulmer.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Doris Robertson Self and a grandson, Tyler Fulmer.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, Thursday, March 28, 2013, at St. James United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Charlie Short with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of his son, 3171 Highway 49 and will receive friends at the church from 2:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church Building Fund, 101 Richards St., Laurens, SC 29360.
