Carol Yvette Martin-Hicks was born June 18, 1965 to the loving union of John and Eva (Hester) Martin in Los Angeles, California. Carol was the youngest of four children and was baptized in the Lutheran Church at an early age.

Carol graduated from the University of California, Irvine where she became a Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was a licensed Physician Assistant through Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. Her PA career included positions in Los Angeles, Hawkesbury, Canada and the Greenville Hospital System.

Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and remained in remission until her diagnosis of Leukemia in 2012. She became an advocate for stem cell and bone marrow donations. She continued to "fight the good fight" until God in his infinite wisdom, called Carol's soul to rest on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Her love and memories will remain in the hearts of her husband, Ricky Hicks, her two sons, Masai and Khemet, her parents, John and Eva Martin, her siblings Valerie Martin-Lee and James Darryl Martin, as well as a host of close family and friends. She was preceded in death by her older brother John Farrell Martin.

A "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11:00 am at New Heights Church of the Nazarene, 15518 East Gale Ave, Hacienda Heights, CA 91745.
