Charles Avery Hawkins
Charles Avery Hawkins, 90, of Greenville, husband of Cecelia Rigsbee Hawkins, died Friday, February 7, 2014, at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Greenville, Mr. Hawkins was a son of the late Avery Judson and Maggie Elmira Boling Hawkins. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII
, stationed in the Panama Canal Zone.
Mr. Hawkins retired from J.D. Hollingsworth as a sales manager, and he was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Hawkins enjoyed old cars, especially his two Packards. He treasured his friends, including his Hardees breakfast buddies and loved his 'canine boys', Casey and Bailey.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Myra Phillips (Billy), Wayne Hawkins (Beth), Sheila Hawkins, and Margaret Brack, all of Greenville; four grandchildren, Mindy Williams of Charleston, and Terra McKenzie (Taz), Stefannie Eller (Michael), and Dean Phillips, all of Greenville; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Bell Hawkins; four nieces; and one step-nephew.
Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his first wife, Fannie Poole Hawkins; granddaughter, Catherine "Katie" Brack; sister, Jo-Ann Blackwell; and brother, James "Jim" Hawkins.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 10, 2014, from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. at Mountain Creek Baptist Church, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow the service in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
