Charles Franklin Hazel, 87, husband to the late Marilyn Bolt Hazel, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 28, 2012.

Mr. Hazel was born December 14, 1925 in Laurens to the late Frank Godfrey Hazel and Lucia Marie Owens Hazel. He retired from the John D. Hollingsworth Company and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in both the European and Pacific theaters. He was a member of Mauldin First Baptist Church where he was very active with the elderly programs. He was a member of the Empire Masonic Lodge #213 in Mauldin and a charter member of the Mauldin Fire Department. Charles loved people, gardening, and attending the reunions of his Army unit.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Tate and husband Mike, and Donna Hazel; a son, Tony Hazel and wife d'Rue; adopted brother and sisters, James Adams, Joan Smith, and Elane Finley; a brother, James Edwin Hazel and wife Jo; five grandchildren, Jeremy Tate and wife Jenny, Ashley Young and husband Seth, Mari Hazel, Sarah Hazel, and Katie Hazel; and two great-grandchildren, Grant and Lydia Young. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Earl Hazel and Bobby Darrell Hazel.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mauldin First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Wade Leonard. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
