Edward H. "Ed" Fenton, 93, of Simpsonville, SC and formerly of West Warwick, and Providence, RI died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank, NJ after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His last event was the Memorial Day services in Shrewsbury, NJ when he proudly wore his Marine Corp League uniform. He resided at Brandywine Assisted Living in Shrewsbury, NJ for the last year. Born in Providence, a son of the late Timothy E. and Bertha E. (English), he lived in RI until he moved to SC in 1998. He graduated from Central High 1938 and attained an Associates Degree from Roger Williams JC. He was an accountant for Uniroyal, Providence RI for many years until it closed in 1975. He then worked in the City of Providence Tax Assessors office for 10 years.

Ed Fenton was an active member of his community. He was a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church, Greenville, SC and formerly at The Church of the Transfiguration in Cranston, RI. Formerly a member of the Friendly Mixers Square Dance Club. He and his late wife Margaret "Peggy" were recipients of The Yankee Clipper Award in 1985.

Ed proudly served his country as a US Marine from 1942-1946 (during World War II) and again from 1950-1952 (during the Korean Conflict). He was an active member of Marine Corps League Owens/Kennemore Detachment #1105, Greenville, SC. He was an avid runner and walker for over 40 years. He ran often in 5K races throughout New England, South Carolina and many other places that he traveled. He was the Greenville Track Club's 2001 Runner of the Year at age 81. Ed will forever be remembered as a man of many convictions: determination with his running, a true Republican, forever a Marine, a die hard Red Sox and Patriots fan. He cherished every part of life but most dear to his heart was his family!

He was predeceased by his wife "Peggy" of 51 years in 1996 and by his parents and his brother Norman and his sister Ruth. Ed leaves his wife, Virginia of Simpsonville, SC and his three children, Margaret Muir and her husband Ronald of Whitehouse Station, NJ. Edward, Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Little Silver, NJ and Richard and his wife Dianne of Breinigsville, PA.; a sister, Margaret of Hope Valley, RI, and brothers, Raymond and Earl of Greenville, RI and four grandchildren - Timothy E. Fenton, III and his wife Stacie Mruk of Washington, DC, Cynthia M. Wallace and her husband Jeffrey of Glastonbury, CT, Matthew J. Fenton and his wife Robin of Thorndale, PA and Erin L. Cassano and her husband J. Andrew of Alburtis, PA as well as five great-grandchildren - Rachel M. Wallace, Kyle J. Wallace, Allison R. Wallace, Ryan E. Fenton and Penelope D. Cassano.

His funeral will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 10:00 AM from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Transfiguration, Broad St., Edgewood, RI. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are Wednesday, 4-7 PM.
