Ernest Joseph Hilton-Oliver, 99, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the home of his step-daughter.
Born in England, he was the son of the late Ernest Hilton and Lucy Grensitt. At the age of seven, his family moved to Hamilton, Ontario Canada. He graduated at the age of fifteen and went to work for the Canadian Pacific Railroad where he worked for 45 years, retiring as the Roundhouse Manager. Ernest was the first training instructor for the city of Hamilton, Ontario ambulance crews and was of the Catholic faith.
After his retirement he spent the winters in Ruskin, FL where he enjoyed fishing, dancing and playing shuffleboard.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Joyce Bates Hilton-Oliver; daughter, Lynda Holland of Hamilton, Ontario; stepchildren: Katie (Brent) Cope of Travelers Rest, Jackie Schneider and Pat Howard both of Grand Rapids, MI and Kevin Howard of Thompson Falls, MT along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a son Fred Bousfield and a sister.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
