Fred Thomas Shirley, 92, of 470 Gum Springs Road, widower of Ramona Gilreath Shirley, died October 6, 2012 at his home.

A native of Abbeville County, son of the late Dewitt Stewart and Ola Johnson Shirley, he was a U.S. Army veteran, where he was squad leader of Company F #325 Glider Infantry serving in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was a retired employee of Cone Mills and a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Lister (Larry) and Sharon Laney all of Taylors; nine grandchildren, Cale Lister (Tracy), Rory Lister, Lacy Cooper (Chad), Lance Lister, Doran Lister, Fred Laney, Dawn Laney, Nicholas Laney (Samantha) and Shannon Muller; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Shirley was predeceased by four brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will be held 11:00-11:45 a.m. Monday at The Wood Mortuary.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Rev. Roscoe Wilson and Larry Lister. Burial will follow in Mountain View United Methodist Church.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family is at the home.
