Geraldine Philippus Riley
Mrs. Geraldine Philippus Riley, 83, entered into rest November 7, 2013, after a long and eventful life.
Born in Texas on December 7 1929, to Post Master and school teacher
Henry and Willie Mae Philippus, Gerry was proud to be a fourth generation descendant of Texas Rangers, ranchers and trail drivers. She left home to join the Daily Brothers Circus as an aerialist, traveling from Mexico to Nova Scotia. Gerry became a long- time resident of Belvedere, S. C. operating a home day care center which many children will affectionately remember being known as one of "Riley's Raiders". She had a colorful personality defined by directness, humor and great story telling ability, all of which will be dearly missed.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Carol Riley, North Augusta, SC, Mike and Kathy Riley, Evans, GA, and Kip Riley, Belvedere, SC; a daughter and son-in-law, Giavonni "Boo" and Mike Gibson, Greenville, SC; a sister, Eloise Lenning, Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Lindsey Settles, Gary Settles, Kimberly Menke, Brittany Burnett and Riley Gibson; three great-grandchildren, Gracie Settles, Forrest Settles and Ella Cate Menke.
In accordance with her wishes, Gerry will be cremated and then taken to her beloved home in Cost, Texas for a family ceremony to be held at Monthalia United Methodist Church. The date of the service will be announced. She will be interred next to her parents in a small local family cemetery in Wrightsboro, Texas, which was named after her grandfather.
