Helen Hester Porter, 74, wife of Kenneth C. Porter, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 after struggling with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

A life-long resident of Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Alvin P. and Ruth Mauldin Hester.

She was a graduate of Parker High School class of 1956 and obtained a BA degree from Furman University.

An avid reader, Helen was a member of the Chapter 76 Book Club. She was also a charter member of the Greenville County Legal Auxiliary and instrumental in starting the PTSO at Travelers Rest High School. She was a long time member of a bridge club with cherished friends.

Helen was an active member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. She served in many capacities including the Board of Trustees, the Administrative Board, Chair of the Worship Committee and former President of the Round Table Sunday School Class.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 53 years, are two daughters, Wendy Porter Wilson (David) and Leslie Porter Seay (Brian); grandchildren, Caroline and Margaret Wilson and Liza and Porter Seay; a brother, Gary A. Hester; and a sister, Judith H. Jones (Geary).

The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers over the last couple of years.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church with visitation following.

The Round Table Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, 200 Buncombe Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
