James E. Meyer, M.D.
James E. Meyer, M.D., 88, died on September 12, in Greenville, SC. Born on April 11, 1925, in St Louis, MO, he graduated from Yale University
and Albany Medical College (NY). He served as medical director of a U.S. Army
hospital train during the Korean War
from 1951-53. Afterwards, he practiced for many years in Manchester, MO, before joining the Air Force and serving in the South Pacific. His last tour of duty was in Myrtle Beach. From there he retired to Pickens County and continued to serve his community by practicing at the Greenville County Free Medical Clinic on Wednesdays.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Meyer, daughters Jan Cummings of Minneapolis, MN, Susan Birge of Newport, VT and son, James Meyer, Jr, of Chesterfield, MO, along with stepchildren Susan Ramos of El Paso, TX, John Waller of Charlotte, NC, and David Waller of Newnan, GA, and ten grandchildren. He was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church, where the celebration of his life will be held with military honors on Tuesday, September 17 at 4 p.m. followed by visitation in the Graham Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fourth Presbyterian Church, 703 E Washington St, Greenville, SC, 29601.
