Kizer Andrew Baker, Jr


Kizer Andrew Baker, Jr., 86, beloved husband of Elizabeth Harrison Baker, died Monday, December 31, 2012. He was a kind and loving man who will be missed deeply by his family and friends.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Kizer Andrew Baker, Sr. and Leura Goodnough Baker.

After graduation from Parker High School in 1943, he served in the Pacific with the US Navy during World War II. He carried an abiding love for his country throughout his life. Andy retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years as a letter carrier. He was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church for more than 60 years.

Andy was a long-time member of American Legion Post 3, Sam Poe Lodge, Scottish Rite Temple, Parker Coin Club, National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 344, Furman Paladin Club and the Friendship Club. He was a member of the Greenville Rebeleers Drum and Bugle Corps in the 1950s and 1960s and remained active in organizing annual reunions of its members.

Surviving, in addition to his deeply loved wife of 65 years, are two children and their spouses, Debbie Ball and husband Jim; John Baker and wife Debra, all of Greenville; four grandchildren: Kristin Ball Rollins and husband Trey of Greenville; Jamie Ball Dawson and husband John of Alexandria, VA; Ryan Ball and Andrew Baker, both of Greenville; and two great grandchildren, Ella and Emerson Rollins. He is also survived by a sister, Bobbie Roddy of North Augusta, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, John L. Baker, and four sisters: Vera Hothersall, Nell Roddy, Sara Sammons, and Billie Case.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 4, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 12 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel. Entombment will be Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
