Lois MacGiehan, aged 99, died Monday June 24, 2013 at Westside Nursing Home in Greenville.

Mrs. MacGiehan was the widow of the late Neal MacGiehan and the daughter of Charles E. Smith and Ruth C. Ostling. She was born January 5, 1914 in Chester, Connecticut.

She graduated from Connecticut College for Women in 1935 and kept in touch with college friends. She worked for the League of Women Voters in Hartford, Connecticut and retained a keen interest in politics. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Lands End Homeowners Association in Lexington, SC for 20 years. She was an avid reader of newspapers and books, with a great fondness for American history.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Arthur "Judy" Joy of Sun City Center, FL, and Mrs. Alan "Ruth" DeVorsey, of Greenville; three grandchildren; one great grandchild, two step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 30, from 3:00 - 4:30pm at The Mackey Mortuary. Private burial will be in Coleman Memorial Cemetery.
