Margaret M. Dennis
Mrs. Margaret Mitchum Dennis, 92, widow of LeRoy Edward Dennis, Sr., entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Rolling Green Village in Greenville, South Carolina.
Mrs. Dennis was born July 28, 1920, in Climax, Georgia, a daughter of the Rev. William Mood and Frieda Phrocienne Gaylord Mitchum. Mrs. Dennis was a graduate of Columbia College. She enjoyed a 20 year career as an elementary school teacher and administrator in Charleston, Lane and Kingstree SC. She dedicated the latter years of her career to the South Carolina Department of Social Services in Kingstree, SC. She was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where she had served as church historian and was an active member of the Wallace Connor Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women.
Following her retirement she began to travel the world and never missed an opportunity to go anywhere, which would seem to have been transmitted genetically to all of her grandchildren. She often said that her greatest personal epiphany was that she had the power to say NO! She considered that to be the most liberating day of her life.
She is survived by: two sons, Leroy Edward Dennis Jr. and his wife Linda Smart Dennis, of Saint Simons Island, Georgia and William Littleton Dennis and his wife Vereen Andrews Dennis, of Greenville South Carolina; five grandchildren, Margaret Ellen Dennis Sieber, of Decatur, Georgia, Margaret Vereen Dennis, of Washington DC, Jessica Louise Dennis, of Charleston, South Carolina, Caroline Carlisle Dennis, of Nashville, Tennessee, and William Andrews Dennis, of Greenville South Carolina; a great granddaughter Maylin Vaughn Sieber; three nieces, Frieda Cross (Reese) Earley, of Orangeburg, SC, Frances Cross (Pat) Patrick, of St George, SC and Virginia Robbins (John) Hoffman, of Columbus, Ohio; and one nephew James F Mitchum, of Hartsville, SC.
She was preceded in death by: two brothers, James Mitchum and William Joseph Mitchum of Hartsville, SC; and two sisters, Leila Evelyn Mitchum (Jerome) Cross of Eutawville, SC and Frances Virginia Mitchum (Jefferson) Robbins of Kingstree, SC.
Funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, will be 1 PM Saturday November 17, 2012, at Kingstree United Methodist Church, with burial in Williamsburg Cemetery. Following the services, the family will receive visitors at the family home on Longstreet Street, in Kingstree.
Memorials may be made to Kingstree United Methodist Church, 510 N Longstreet St, Kingstree, SC 29556.
Special thanks and love to Elizabeth and Edward McDonald of Kingstree SC and the Staff of Rolling Green Village in Greenville SC. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.WilliamsburgFuneralHome.com
