Raymond L. (Ray) Kagel Sr.(1921 - 2013)

Raymond (Ray) L. Kagel, Sr.

Greenville

Raymond (Ray) L. Kagel, Sr., peacefully passed into the eternal hands of the Lord, on Sunday, January 27, 2013 after bravely facing lung cancer; he was 3-months shy of his 92nd birthday.

Although born in Albany, New York on April 29, 1921, Ray has been a resident of SC for the past 45 years. He was a Senior Engineer of General Electric, a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, and a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Most importantly, Ray was a loving and devoted Christian, husband, father, and grandfather. Besides his family, Ray's greatest personal passion was an indomitable love of the great outdoors. He was equally at home fishing for a little trout in a local creek, or casting for huge salmon in coastal Alaska, and he was just as thrilled to hunt deer and wild turkeys in the SC Piedmont, as he was when hunting moose or elk in Idaho and Montana. Mr. Kagel enriched the lives of everyone that knew him; he was very slow to anger or find fault, but quick as a wink to laugh, to praise, and to love and embrace family, friends, and strangers alike. He will be long remembered and sorely missed; his passing leaves a hole in this world that cannot be easily patched.

Surviving are his loving wife of 67 yrs, Dorothy (Diki) Volk Kagel of the home; 3 sons, Raymond (Ray) L. Kagel, Jr., (Susan) of Rigby, Idaho, Richard A. Kagel, (Carla) of Healdsburg, California and Gary W. Kagel (Donna) of Greenville; one sister, Arlean Jenks of West Palm Beach, Florida and ten grandchildren. Ray was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Ann Kagel of Schenectady, New York, a brother, Edward Kagel of Clifton Park, New York, and a sister, Beatrice Rothfield of Ocean, New Jersey.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Lutheran Church of Our Savior located at 2600 Wade Hampton Blvd., Greenville, SC and conducted by Pastor Sean Miller.
