Robert Lewis Ramsey
Robert Lewis Ramsey, 80, of Lowood Lane, husband of 52 years to Tonia Gail Ramsey, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013.
Bob, son of the late Nola and Torney Ramsey, was born in Spindale, North Carolina. He was an athlete at Tryon High School then was drafted to serve in the US Army. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he played baseball.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Stacy Sawyer (Scott) of Elgin and Stephanie Stephenson (John) of Greenville; four grandchildren, Kelsey Sawyer, Laurel Sawyer, Ramsey Stephenson, and McLeod Stephenson. He was predeceased by two brothers, a sister, and a grandson Robert Cole Sawyer.
Mr. Ramsey married Toni in Long Beach, California and moved to Greenville in 1965, where he began a career in equipment sales. He was named Vice President of Spartan Equipment and later started RLT Leasing and S&S Equipment specializing in crane applications.
His love of reading, led him to sponsor the Ramsey Family Augusta Road Branch Library. In 2002, Bob was named Philanthropist of the Year. He was a member of several business and social organizations. Bob loved golfing at the Greenville County Club, traveling extensively especially to volunteer at the US Open Championships, attend Ryder Cups, British Opens, Olympic Games, and watching his Gamecocks play! He was a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 3:00 at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, 200 Buncombe Street. Visitation will follow at the church. The family is at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buncombe Street UMC Congregational Care or The Ramsey Family Augusta Road Branch Library.
