W.B. "Bill" Barnett

Travelers Rest

Wallace Bill Barnett, 84, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 16, 2013. He was the son of the late Jesse Lee and Daisy Johnson Barnett of Locust Hill.

Born in Greenville County, Bill spent most of his life in Travelers Rest and recently resided in Greer. He attended Clearview Baptist Church. Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He was kind and generous and stood by many family members and friends through difficult life challenges and illnesses. He put the needs of others ahead of himself, and he is loved and respected for doing so. Bill was selfless and humble and had a quiet, steady nature that guided him - allowing him to focus on those things that mattered most—family, compassion, faith, love, and integrity. He was self-reliant and independent and had a mechanical mind for solving challenges. He gardened, sharing his crops with family members and those in need. He enjoyed traveling to interesting sights while visiting his family and old friends along the way. He loved to camp, cook over the fire, fish, and walk in the woods. He had a playful nature that helped him relate closely to children and adults alike. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and exuded strong love and patriotism for our county. He was a hard worker, serving over 35 years at W.R. Grace Co. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (McKinney) Anderson Barnett; three daughters: Diane Ricciardi (Paul), Karen Barnett and Julie Youmans; one step daughter: Pamela Stokes (Rick); one step son: Ronald Anderson (Shannon); three sisters: Nellie Ruth Holt, Shirley Graham, and Carlene Hamlett (Jimmy); two sisters-in-law: Estelle and Louise Barnett; one brother: Alvin Barnett (Donavie); six grandchildren: Sophia and Daniel Youmans, Raleigh Stokes (Courtney), Walt Anderson (Crystal), Andrea Moseley (Tyler), and Abigail Stokes; and one great-grandchild, Addalynne Stokes. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law: Michael Youmans; brothers: Douglas, Neigel, Richard, and Linol Barnett; sisters: Sylvia Jean Short, and Dorothy Buchanan, and brothers-in-law: J.C. Holt, Charles Buchanan, Tony Short, and Hoyt Graham. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary. Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, formerly Grandview Memorial Gardens in Travelers Rest. The family will be at the home. Memorials may be made to the Clearview Baptist Church Debt Reduction fund, P.O. Box 974, Travelers Rest, SC 29690. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.thehowzemortuary.com. The Howze Mortuary (Travelers Rest) is in charge of the arrangements. (864) 834-8051.
