William "Bill" Caldwell, age 79, died October 15, 2013 at his home. He was a son of the late William Frazier Caldwell and Sarah Francis Auten Caldwell, of Charlotte/Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

Bill graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, NC in 1952, and from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

He entered the U.S. Navy in 1957 and served as a carrier-based jet light attack pilot until 1964. While in the Navy, he accumulated over 353 carrier landings.

Bill was active in the Human Resources (HR) field for over 50 years.

He was a long-standing member, and former President, of the R.N. Ward Sunday School class at First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, S.C. He was also a member of the adult choir, having served as its President, and was a member of the church Worship and Music Committee.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Jeanette Bogan Caldwell; his daughter, Jody Caldwell Smith and husband, Allen Smith; his son, William Scott Caldwell; his daughter, Linda Caldwell Holt and husband, William Braz Holt III. He was the grandfather of Joshua and Jessica Martin, Tyler and Dylan Caldwell, and Will and Clay Holt. He was the brother of Margaret Caldwell Baker of Sanford, NC, Ann Caldwell Greenwell of New London, NC, and James Addison Caldwell of Doylestown, PA.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Richard Gibbons and Rev. Dr. Pamela Cole officiating.

Visitation will be held 1:30-2:50 p.m. Sunday in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Washington Street, Greenville, South Carolina 29601.
