Robert Moorman Simkins, Jr.

Robert Moorman Simkins, Jr., 88, widower of Hazel Roach Simkins, died Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Greenville, SC.

Born April 1, 1923 in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late Robert M. Simkins, Sr. and Lillie Stapleton Simkins.

Mr. Simkins was retired from JE Sirrine Co. and was a charter member of Augusta Heights Baptist Church. He proudly served as an Engineer in the Army Air Corps during WWII.

He was a patron of The Masters at Augusta National Golf Club since 1963 and was an avid gardener, loved the Gamecocks, golf, the mountains and beach. He enjoyed appearing in the movie "Leatherheads".

Surviving are children, Robert Moorman Simkins III and wife, Rebecca, of Decatur, GA, Angela S. Halfacre and husband, Randy, of Lexington, SC, Debra S. Hokanson and husband, Carl, of Columbia and Virginia Simkins and husband, William Walker, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Lisa Anne Simkins, Robert Moorman Simkins IV, Charles Michael Simkins, Michelle Halfacre Giovannone, Hope Halfacre-Bryant, Brittany Victoria Halfacre, Shannon Elisabeth Hokanson and Liam Simkins-Walker; and two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Harrington Simkins and John Eldred Simkins.

Memorials may be made to Augusta Heights Baptist Church, 3018 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC 29605.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 23, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Augusta Heights Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery.
