David Lance Hayward, beloved husband of Carolyn T. Hayward, passed away May 5, 2013. David was 68.

Known for his wit and sense of humor, David was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Lance Coen and Harriet Stout Hayward. He was a 1966 graduate of the University of Florida where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. After his service in the United States Army in the Rhineland District, David fulfilled a long career in the financial industry. He retired from ScanSource in 2008.

David was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church and the Gleaner Sunday School Class.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Allison T. (Robert) Thornton, of Holland, Ohio; his son, Scott D. (Jennifer) Hayward, of Boone, NC; his grandchildren, Kyle and Kara Thornton; and Griffin and Everett Hayward; his brother, Robert R. (Karen) Hayward, of Rosman, NC; his sister-in-law, Dolores F. Hayward, of Frisco, TX; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George A. Hayward.

Memorial services will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11:00am at Covenant United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Darren Hook and Reverend Linda Guthrie. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00am - 11:00am at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, PO Box 96280, Washington, DC, 20077; or to Covenant United Methodist Church, 1310 Old Spartanburg Road, Greer, SC, 29650.
