John W. Smith, Jr.

Greer

John Wesley Smith, Jr., 82, of 4450 Babb Road, died May 14, 2013.

A native of Walton County, Georgia, son of the late John Wesley Smith, Sr. and Catherine Hanson Smith, he was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Merle Atkins Hice Smith of the home; five sons, John W. Smith III (Millie) of Seneca, David Albert Smith of Westminster, Mark Wilson Smith of Seneca, Billy Darrell Hice, Jr. (Rachel) of Greer, and Phillip Dale Hice (Charlene) of Pacolet; four daughters, Deborah Egoff (Karl) of Seneca, Rebecca Hale (Ron) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Ruth Ann Sullivan (Henry) of Westminster, and J.C. Wood (Todd) of New Smyrna, Florida; two sisters, Anna Parker of Savannah, Georgia and Susan Carithers of Ellenwood, Georgia; twenty-two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was predeceased by a brother, James Smith and a sister, Libby Shumate.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Mark Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.

The families are at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greer Community Ministries, P.O. Box 1373, Greer, SC 29652.

We knew John along time. He will be missed. Enjoyed his stories of the old days and the one thing I remember most of him was that he always had a smile and always made it a point to speak to me. We here at Moons will miss you John!
