Samuel Masters, 88, of 114 Clubhouse Court, Taylors passed away suddenly on May 16th from complications of pneumonia.

Born Salvatore Mastrosimone, Sam was the sixth child of immigrants Michele and Concetta Mastrosimone from Caltanissetta Sicily. Sam was a lifelong athlete; quarterback for 1941 All-City Jefferson High School football team; after graduating from Middlebury College, Sam was drafted by the New York Giants baseball team; he played semi-pro fast pitch softball; an avid golfer, Sam had 6 holes in one, most recently at 84 years old. Sam was an active member of the Golden Boys of Pebble Creek and enjoyed playing cards with friends.

WWII veteran of 3rd Marine Air Wing, Sam served in the Philippine's from 1942 to 1945. Sam enjoyed the Honor Flight to Washington, DC on May 7, 2013.

Sam was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane Masters; and is survived by son David Masters and wife Denise; son Samuel Masters Jr.; and daughter Cynthia Woelfle and husband John; grandchildren, Rachel Silfvast, Michael Masters, Anthony Masters, Brock Masters, Nicholas Masters; great-grandchild Makaya Silfvast-Johnson; and brother Philip Dominic Masters.

Sam was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years and a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m., Monday May 20 at Palmetto Mortuary, 1313A Miller Rd., Greenville, SC 29607. Services will be held Tuesday May 21 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church at 1209 Brushy Creek Road, Taylors, SC 29687, with a visitation from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m., immediately followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:30 p.m.

Cremation Society of South Carolina is serving the Masters family.
