Robert Faid Obituary

Robert (Bob) Wesley Faid, 79, of Taylors, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 30, 2008, in the McCall Hospice House following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 30, 1929, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Grace Bryant Faid of Greenville, and the late John Wesley Faid. He was a graduate of Poly Tech High School, and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the end of World War II, and later in the Korean Conflict. He was one of the first Airborne Rangers. He graduated with a Degree in Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and began a twenty-five year career with W.R. Grace & Company, from which he retired in 1973. Mr. Faid was a Christian American author, and a nuclear engineer, having held the honor of being in the top ten nuclear scientists until 1975. He also held a degree in Theology from Coatesville Bible College, and was a faithful member of the Greenville First Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Jean Winslow Faid; one son, Brent D. Faid of Taylors; one daughter, Robyn Faid Taylor and her husband, Zac of Simpsonville; five grandchildren, Austin Taylor, Martin Taylor, Allison Ruth Taylor Wood, Timothy Faid and Michelle Faid; a brother-in-law, James Ross Winslow and his wife, Patricia, and their daughter, Gail Winslow Giles all of Baltimore, Maryland.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 1, at 4 p.m. at the Greenville First Church of the Nazarene with the Reverend Milton Harrington and the Reverend Charles Fountain officiating. Entombment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Greer, where military honors will be rendered.

Active pallbearers will be Ken Huber, Robert Greene, Jimmy Haynes, Jon Alsip, Dwight Hoffman, Ray Moore and Frank Outlaw.

Honorary escort will be members of the Heritage Sunday School class.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McCall Hospice House, 1836 West Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680 or to World Missions International, c/o the Greenville First Church of the Nazarene, 1402 Haywood Road, Greenville, SC 29615.

The family will receive friends from 2:30-3:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
