Alva D. Rainey, 86 of Greer, SC passed away on December 18, 2013. Alva is survived by his wife of 50 years Elaine B. Rainey. He was born in Asheville, NC and moved to SC as a child. He was the son of the late Shuman and Mae Rainey. Alva was predeceased by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by brothers: Julius (Audrey) Rainey, Russell (Ron) Rainey, Carol (Marilyn) Rainey, Doug (Linda) Rainey and a sister: Margaret Spencer. He is also survived by children: Vickie (Tommy) Little, Charlene Starkey, and Sybil Turner; stepchildren: Linda (Bobby) Daigle, Judy (Melvin) Haney and Betsy (Freddy) Couch; grandchildren: Thomas Little, David Little, Laura Ann Little (Scott) Thompson, Rusty (Mandy) Starkey, Chris Turner, Grant (Ashley) Turner, Tracy (Bo) Knight, Christian Rhoney, Angela Morgan, Wendie (Tom) Sweikert, Dusty (Tre) Swartzel, Keith (Julie) Couch, Michael (Stacey) Couch and 16 great-grandchildren. Alva was a veteran of World War II serving in Merchant Marines Air Sea Rescue Squad.

Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:15 am prior to the service at 11:30 am in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Greer Community Ministries Meals on Wheels 738 South Line St. Ext., Greer, SC 29651 www.woodlawn-fh.com
