Bert Junior Tate, age 87, husband of Frances Duncan Tate, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Bert W. and Ada Miller Tate. He was a U.S. Navy World War II and Korean War veteran and was retired from Southern Bell after 34 years of service. Along with his wife, Mr. Tate was an active member of Mauldin First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, was the Sunday School Director, and loved working with the youth of the church. He was also an avid golfer.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Mr. Tate is survived by a son, Mike Tate and wife Kathy; two grandchildren, Ashley Young and husband Seth and Jeremy Tate and wife Jenny; two great grandchildren, Grant Young and Lydia Young; and a sister, Pat Batson. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lynne Tate; and a brother, Truman Tate.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Mauldin First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wade Leonard and Rev. Bob Miller. A private committal service will be held. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm at the church prior to the service.

The family will be at the residence.
