Cort Ray Flint, Jr., born May 14, 1943, husband of Suzanne Foster Flint, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the age of 70.
Born in Oklahoma City, OK, he was the son of the late Dr. Cort R. Flint, Sr. and Ilene Moore-Flint.
Cort received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Auburn University, a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He attended the law schools of Georgetown University and Catholic University of America, receiving the Juris Doctor in 1974.
He was engaged in the private practice of patent, trademark, copyright, Internet law and related litigation in Greenville for more than 35 years. He was included in Best Lawyers in America since 2004. He received the highest rating, "av," from Martindale Hubbell for the past 30 years of his practice.
Cort was raised in Anderson County, where he attended Anderson Boys High. He was previously employed as an aerospace engineer with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from 1966-70 and worked personally with Dr. Werner Von Braun on the Apollo moon project. He received the NASA Apollo Achievement Award in 1969 for working on the first moon landing.
Cort was a patent examiner with the U.S. Patent Office from 1970-74 and a law clerk with the United States Patent Board of Appeals in 1973. His professional and community involvement include: membership in the SC Bar, where he was a member of the House of Delegates from 1986-94 and again in 2001; member of Carolinas Patent Law Association, where he was a member of the Board of Directors from 1984-89 and president in 1990; member of the American Bar Association; and member of the International Trademark Association.
Cort served on Greenville County Council from 2000 to 2008 where he served on the Finance and Planning and Development committees. He was a member of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, Upstate Forever, Friends of the Reedy River, the Carolina Kids Conservancy, and the Poinsett Club.
Cort was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had a love for the outdoors and a passion for flying, having received his pilot's license at the age of 14.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children, Cort Flint III and wife, Cheryl, Priscilla Magsig, and husband, Heath, Curtis Flint, Logan Flint, and his wife, Amy, Jenna Haligas, and husband, Dan; grandchildren, Hannah and River Flint, Chase, Skyler and Alexa Magsig, Mazzy and Slade Flint, Chandler, Cort and Flint Haligas; step grandchildren, Vincent and Daniel; sister, Sue Ann Glenn and husband Mike; and nieces and nephew, Caroline, Betsy, and Michael.
The memorial service will be held Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Visitation will follow the service.
